The military trial of Meriden-native Frank Wuterich has been postponed one week from March 3 to March 10.

Wuterich, a Marine staff sergeant, will face a court martial on nine counts of voluntary manslaughter and other charges related to the deaths of Iraqi civilians on Nov. 19, 2005 in the city of Haditha.

Wuterich led his squad on raids of several nearby houses after a roadside bomb killed one Marine and wounded two others. Women and children died during the raids, and the questions at trial will center around whether Wuterich followed the rules of engagement in leading the assaults.

Mark S. Zaid, one of Wuterich's civilian defense attorneys, said in an email to reporters that the postponement was for a variety of reasons.

Wuterich will stand before a military jury at Camp Pendleton Marine Base in Southern California. The trial is expected to last two weeks.

His parents, David and Rosemarie, live on the city's west side.
