December 18th,
2007 - Hearing Set for Edmond Marine |
|
John A. Williams The Edmond Sun December 18, 2007 Edmond - A motions hearing
for Lance Cpl. Stephen B. Tatum of Edmond is scheduled for Wednesday at Camp
Pendleton, Calif. In October, Lt. Gen. James
Mattis dismissed charges of murder and negligent homicide against Tatum, but
sent him to court martial on charges of involuntary manslaughter, reckless
endangerment and aggravated assault for his alleged involvement in the death
of Iraqi civilians in Haditha, Iraq, on Nov. 19, 2005. Twenty-four civilians were
killed in what military prosecutors said was a house-to-house rampage by
Marines after a roadside bomb killed one of their comrades, 20-year-old Lance
Cpl. Miguel Terrazas. Originally, four Marines
were charged with murder in the case. Lt. Col. Jeffrey Chessani,
the commander of the battalion involved in the incident, faces charges of
dereliction of duty and violation of a lawful order for failing to accurately
report and investigate the incident. One other officer, 1st Lt.
Andrew Grayson, still faces charges related to his response to the killings. External link: http://www.edmondsun.com/local/local_story_352130134.html |
