Iraq war veteran and former Riverside police officer Jose Nazario Jr. returned to federal court for a hearing Monday.

Nazario is charged with killing two unarmed detainees in Fallujah, Iraq, in 2004. He is charged in federal court because he is no longer in the military.

Nazario's attorney, Kevin McDermott, has requested records from the U.S. Attorney's Office about recordings from drones that may have been flying overhead, chat messages and radio traffic from the day the killing allegedly took place.

Nazario remains out on bail and is scheduled to return to court Nov. 19.
