Staff Sgt. Raymond Girouard declined to enter a plea during his arraignment hearing on murder charges today.

Girouard, of 3rd Brigade Combat Team, is charged in connection with the deaths of three Iraqi detainees during a raid on a suspected al-Qaida stronghold near Tikrit.

Girouard's attorneys requested he be released from pre-trial confinement, but the judge did not rule on it today, saying he wanted to review the evidence.

Girouard - who faces charges of premeditated murder, attempted premeditated murder, conspiracy to commit murder, conspiracy to commit premeditated murder, communicating a threat, conspiracy to obstruct justice, obstruction of justice, larceny and violating a direct order - is the third solder to be arraigned in the case.

If convicted, he could be sentenced to life without parole and a dishonorable discharge.

Two of his co-defendents, Pfc. Corey R. Clagett and Spc. William B. Hunsaker, also with 3rd Brigade, were arraigned Thursday. They also declined to enter pleas.

A fourth soldier charged in the case, Spc. Juston Graber, has yet to be arraigned.
