“[…] On 05JAN06, Reporting Agent interviewed [redacted] Saudi Arabian who was employed with ‘L-3 Corporation’ and contracted to the United States as a translator. [redacted] had been working for 2D Force Recon Company for about two to three weeks before Abbass’ death. This interviewed [sic] occurred at Forward Operation Base (FOB) Korean Village, IZ.

“[redacted] recalled going into the last home that was raided on 04JAN06. He remembered in his late 40s or early 50s who was already [redacted].

“The man was saying that he was innocent and that there were no insurgents in the area and he was being humiliated because the Marines had come into his home. [redacted] said this was a common saying among Iraqis as their homes were being raided.

“[redacted] interviewed the man’s wife, daughters and children. No one said anyhing about the older man having any type of medical problems. [redacted] claimed normally if someone did have a medical problem, usually the family is very vocal in telling him and the Marines that the individual is sick. They do this in hopes the individual will be released.

“[redacted] remembered asking the man if he had any weapons in the house and the man mumbled something that [redacted] would not understand. [redacted] interpreted the reaction as a method of not answering the question so [redacted] asked the man’s wife if there were any weapons in the home.

“She responded there was one on top of a closet and it turned out to be an AK-47. [redacted] could not recall what the other two detainees said when he questioned them. He recalled the older man appearing fine when [redacted] spoke to him. [redacted] said he has not heard anyone say anything that would lead him to believe that something sinister was done to the older man. [redacted] had no further pertinent information during this interview. […]

“[…] On 05JAN06, Reporting Agent interviewed [redacted] USMC, [redacted] 2D Force Recon Company. The interview occurred at Forward operation Base (FOB) Camp Korean Village and [redacted] was interviewed in order to obtain basic information concerning the death of detainee Adnan Eid Abbass on 04JAN06.

“[redacted] stated during the morning of 04JAN06 his unit was involved in a series of raids at Ar Rutbah, IZ. At about 0220, Abbass and two other detainees were loaded into a HMMWV and driven to Camp Korean Village. There were 17 other detainees in a 7 ton truck that also made the trip.

“After arriving at Camp Korean Viliage detention center the detainees were allowed to disembark and were escorted into the detention center. Abbass did not respond to verbal commands and had to be carried out of the HMMWV.

“[redacted] was in one of the last vehicles and saw the Marines carrying Abbass out of the HMMWV. [redacted] walked over to Abbass and noted his eyes were open and his tongue was hanging out. [redacted] came over and checked for a pulse and was unable to find one.

“[redacted] left the scene to find the Company’s Sergeant Major. When [redacted] returned to Abbass a couple of minutes later [redacted] had joined [redacted] and they had cut the plastic ties off Abbass’ wrists.
